SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
DIOCESE OF ADELAIDE.
MISCELLANEOUS.
His Lordship, Dr. Reynolds, left Adelaide
on Tuesday, the 10th April, for
Sydney, to attend the Month's Memory
of the late Archbishop Polding, of
which we give a full account elsewhere,
The Bishop returned to Adelaide early on
Thursday morning, and we are glad to
learn that his Lordship's health has been
much improved by his sea trip.—S. A.
Tablet, 4th May..
There have been several changes in the
various Missions since our last issue.
The Rev. Father Hennessy, formerly of
North Adelaide, is located at Marrabel,
in the place of Father Kennedy, who proceeds
to Victoria; Father Unsworth, of
West-terrace, joins the Venerable Archdeacon
at North Adelaide; and Father
Church has taken charge of the Salisbury
congregation.—Ibid.
The monument imported from Melbourne
to be erected over the grave of
the late Dean Fitzgibbon was raised last
week, and now forms the most conspicuous
object in the new cemetery. Jt
stands about 15 feet high. The materials
are marble and Victorian bluestone; the
column and panels are of the former stone
and the pedeBtal is of the latter. The
whole is surmounted by a richly-carved
marble cross. There are four panels,
each of which bears an inscription. The
front is lettered as follows :—" Gloria in
excelsis Deo. Sacred to the memory of
Daniel Fitzgibbon, Dean of Mount Grambier.
Born at Newcastle in Ireland, 15th
May, 1830 ; died 17th June, 1876. May
he rest in peace." On the right side is
a Latin translation of the foregoing. Ou
the back panel:—"For I am now ready to
be sacrificed, and the time of my dissolution
is at hand. I have fought a good
fight; I have kept the faith. For the
rest there is laid up for me a crown of
justice, which the Lord, the Just Judge,
will render to me at that day. 2 Ep.
Tim. iv. 6, 7, 8." On the left panel
the verses are repeated in Latin.
The railing is not yet erected.—Border
Watch.
