SYDNEV, THURSDAY.
It has been decided to unseat Mr. Dean, whose
election had been petitioned against on the score
of bribery.
In reply to a question, the Treasurer said that
£17,500 bad been placed on the Estimates for
the Californian mail service.
The discharged soldiers and pensioners have
voluntarily offered to form a defence corps.
Messrs. Thame and Walker, on whose premises
an illicit still was discovered in full working
order last week, for which they were fined
£300, have been arrested on a further charge of
conspiring to defraud the Queen.
SYDNEY, FRIDAY.
Silver medals have been awarded by the Exhibition
commissioners to Messrs. Alcock and
Co., for a beautiful billiard-table made of New
South Wales tulip wood ; to Messrs. Alexander
Gray and Co., of Geelong, for fancy tweeds ; to
Dr. Von Miiller, for Victorian vegetable productions
; and to Mr. Brough Smyth, for his very
fine collection of minerals.
