KILKENNY.
The churches at Kilkenny held a combined
peace thanksgiving service on Sunday. The
arrangements had been made by a committee of
representatives of each denomination. It was
originally intended to hold the service in the
open air, but owing to the unfavourable weather
it was conducted in the Elgin Methodist Church.
Despite the short notice the church was crowded
to the doors. The Sunday schools represented
were Church of Christ, Methodist, Congrega-
tional, Church of England, and the Salvation
Army. Mr. Watson Jeanes presided and read
the King's proclamation. The official service
was conducted by the following:- Messrs. Chap-
ple and Mossop (Church of Christ), Saunders
(Methodist), Morris (Congregational), and Ad-
jutant Pearson (Salvation Army). The Rev. E.
O. Holton gave a stirring address. The singing
was led by a combined choir, which also ren-
dered the *Te Deum," under the baton of Mr.
Rae. Mr. T. Mitchell prattled at the organ.
The Salvation Army Band rendered selections.
