THE WHEAT BOARD.
The Premier (Hon. A.H. Peake), who
is the Minister controlling the Wheat
Scheme, attended a meeting of the Wheat
Board on Tuesday. As it is likely that the
personnel of the new board will be an
nounced this week, Mr. Peake took the
opportunity to express his thanks, and the
thanks of the Government to the Chair
man and members of the present board.
He said he had leaned heavily upon the
board since having assumed control of the
Wheat Scheme, and deeply appreciated the
valuable assistance they had given. At the
close of the meeting members tendered
their thanks to the Chairman (Hon. L.
O'Loughlin) for the manner in which he
had conducted the meetings and supervised
the business. Acknowledging the compli
ment, Mr. O'Loughlin paid tributes to the
services rendered the board by Messrs. E.
A. Badcock, W. M. Alford, G..J. Smith
(Railwavs Goods Superintendent) the
Hons. T. Pascoe ana W. Hannaford,
M.L.C.'s, and Messrs. Nicholle (manager),
and Vardon (secretary). 1$ conclusion,
Mr. O'Loughlin said that the board had
had a stormy passage, and had had to sub
mit to a great deal of undeserved criticism.
Much of that criticism, unwarranted and
unworthy, had simply had the effect of de
preciating the value of South Australian
wheat scrip, and had come near to ad
versely affecting future sales of this State's
wheat.
