Mr, Deakin on Irrigation,
M n. D eakin lectured at Sale, on tia tu r-
day afternoon, on the subject of irrig a­
tion. In his opening rem arks the leoturer
said th a t if tbe irrigation scheme were
carried cu t it would mean prosperity to
Gippriand B y the time th e 'Irrigation .
Conference met, in two months’ tim e, he
expected to have collected the testim ony
of 20 or 30 gentlemen wbo had been
engaged for the last four or five years in
scientifically practising irrigation, Which
had been an unqualified success. T h at
testimony would show w hat is doing and
what had been done in tbe colony, together
w ith results obtained. M r D eakin
met w ith a most entbuti&stio reception,
and tbe subject of irrigation is . being
taken up heartily by farmers in Sale and
surrounding diatriote, A fter the leofure,
M r T . B. Abbott, president of the Sale
Commercial Association, entertained M r
Deakin and M essrs McLean and C arter.

Council Chamber, a t which repressnta-..

other places were present. A motion was
