SERVICE AT THE SYNAGOGUE.
?> Aspooial service im held on Sunday after*
noon at the Jewish Synagogue, off Bundle
street. The publio were cordially invited, and
the regular Jewish worshippers assembled in
very largo numbers; consequently there was
an immense attendance, and the Synagogue's
Capacity was taxed to its utmost. The service
was worthy of the occasion. The decorations
arranged by the ladies were splendid and the
singing excellent, ao that the ceremony was a
complete success. - Mr. Arthur H. G. Nash,
the musical conductor, had had the choir under
his training for only about three weeks, but in
that time did wonderfully well. Tho choir
sang Psalms xxi. 1-7, Jxi. and Ixxi.,
and a Hebrew chant, "Adoum Oaloiu."
Master 15. Freidman rendered an ode
in Hebrew very swootly, and the organist
gave Its a proeessional voluntary a processional
march, and as a concluding voluntary the
"War march" from "Athalie" (Mendelssohn).
The ordinary Hebrew afternoon service was
gone through, and the spooial prayer for the
Queen and Royal Family, prepared by the
Ohief Rabbi, the Rev. H. Adler, for use on
this occasion, and published during last week,
was offered up. At the close the National
Anthem was sung with great effect by the
huge congregation, the minister chanting one
verse in Hebrew, and the choir and congrega
tion singing the English rendering after him.
The service was partly in Hebrew, partly in
English. The Rabbi was assisted by Mr. M.
Rosenthal.
The Rabbi's sermon will be found in the
" Day of Rest."
After the service tho choir gatherf 1 in the
vestry, where the Rabbi, liov. A. T. jas, tue
organist, Mr Nash, and tho Secretary of the
Synagogue, Mr. A. K. Salomon, were eulogised
for their good work by the President, Mr. M.
J. Solomon, and the Treasurer, Mr. L. Isaacs.
