JUXDSMEX AND THEIR UNIFORMS.
PETERSBURG, April 30.
In the Magistrates Court to-day. betore
Messrs. J. R. Stevenson and H. Sheridan,
a rase of considerable interest to bandsmen
was heard. The trustees of the Petersburg
bra-s band sued \Y. E. Reynolds, jun., for
£f> for detention of uniform, helmet, and
cap. the property of the Petersburg band.
Air. Hrtleombe appeared for the plaintiffs
ami Mr. Keats for the defence. From the
evidence adduced it appeared that the de
fendant, who had been a member of the
band, resigned recently, and on being asked
to refund the property refused to do so,
contending that he had more than paid for
the uniform by services rendered, notwith
standing the fact that he had signed an
agreement to hand back to the band all
property in his possession on leaving it.
The uniform was purchased b.v public sub
scription, the defendant and the other
members of the band subscribing £1 each
inwards the cost. After hearing a deal of
evidence the bench ordered that the claim
should be reduced £2 10/, and if the uni
form he returned within 24 hours to be fur
ther reduced to 1/, with costs. A similar
ease against W. Reynolds, sen., was with
drawn.
