BRITISH AGRICULTURE.
A PLAN TO STIMULATE
PRODUCTION.
LONDON, 27th November.
A forward agricultural policy is fore
shadowed in an official announcement
stating that the British Government is
convoking a conference of land owners,
farmers and workers, with Government co
operation, to recommend methods to main
tain and increase arable land and stimu
late the maximum production of food
stuffs. It is declared the conference
should aim at the addition of at least
1,000,000 acres of arable land, and not
give undue attention to the production
of wheat to the exclusion of live stock,
dairying and other agricultural activities.

The British Empire Producers' organi
sation has passed a resolution urging the
Government to inquire into and fix a
minimum quota of th'e country's annual
wheat requirements, which should be pro
duced from the soil of the United King
dom, while wheat beyond the quota
should bo of Empire origin. It was
urgent that steps be taken to organise
Empire supplies.
