The Position in ; Sydney.,
JUDGE'S ORDERS RESPECTED.
SVDXKV..— It was stated on Monday
that the overtime strike o.f. the Water
side Workers' 'Federation, 'as fir A il
affected Sydney, might be considered *?
being ove.r. Mr. Ii. ITcffron, secretary ot the
sea transport group of union*, , shortly
before ti p.m. said advice lind been 're-
ceived fvom tbe council of tho Waterside
Workers' Federation in Melbourne; .lilt
ing tlie men, in deference to. the order. of
[Mr. Justice Power*,. to resume -working

overtime with companies that employed
union labor. That meant thnt tho ban
was lifted from inter-State steamers, but
not with regard to overseas steamers or
the north coast or Newcastle lines. The
transport group, which wr,s in session,
concurred with that decision.
It was too late on Monday night for
the officials to ask members to carry on
overtime, but. starting from Tuesday the
old order will be reverted to. Overseas
companies work independent of the Water
side Workers' Federation, members of
which are only employed by them when
shipping bureau men are short. The diffi
culty with oversea steamers in other
ports will still remain, as those ports
have no bureaus.
