Noxious Weeds Problem
Pern Tree Gully shire oaoncil on Monday de

Shooting Game Out of Season.

S^A«mp on 13th December. William J. Richards, I
d! ^Varracknabeal, on a charge of having teal in j
h« posseaftion on the same date, was fined £1
for each of five birds. A sum of 5/, the value
of -3ch biTd, was ordered to be paid in
D.Oi'DEJfOXG. — On 22nd October, 'while 32
bead of cattle were being driven from Dandenong
market, alorig Alelbounve-road, a motor car col
lided with one o^jjie cows, breaking tbe animal's
lev! and thij;h. The Fpeed at which tlie car was
travelling wsa said by some witnesses to have
been between two and four mile^, and by otijeri

Pakeniiam, driver of the motor car, was charged
with negligence, and also \vith failing to give his
name and address to Joseph Smith, whose cow w«L3

dismissed the first charge, but on the second cuun;
imposed a fine of £1, with 21/ qkU
EUROA. — A profit of £25 was made out of
the Kew Year's day sports, and this amount, less
£2 2/ voted to the hon. secretary (P. Brock) is
to be handed to the Euroa sub-brinch of tiie Re
turned Soldiers' League. — The method of financing
tho higher elementary school (towards which the
shire had agreed to pay £2o0 yearly lor iouj ]
years) wa- discussed on Saturday at the shire coun
cil meeting. A petition, feigned by about 90 per
cent, of the North ridicg ratepayers, protecting
against the money being so used, was received,
and representatives of, that riding moved that it
be exempted. This motion was lost, and it was
eventually decided that the town riding contri
bute £luG, and the other three ridings tlie re
mainder on a revenue basis.
iiiiiis CtULLi . — The Railway depart
ment recently introduced a new syetem* whereby
tickets issued for Fern Tree Gully expire in seven
days in lieu of one month. This is considered by
the local council to be operating against tlie pro
gress of Belgrave, Monbuik and other tourist re
sorts iu thc shire, and it has been decided to re
quest the department to revert to the old Kvstera,
an/J also give the reason for the change.— An elec
tric lighting scheme is proposed lor the townships
of Belgrave apd Upwey, and the council has been
approached with a view to securing its sanction to
the formation of a private company for supplying
current for lighting and lower. The electricity
will be generated by either water or suction gas.
Tbe Centre and East riding r*»nre-entdtive9 have
been appointed to meet in conference with the
promoter o! the scheme, Mr. P. J. Byrne, of Bel
grave, to decide whether it ii advisable lor the
council to give its required consent to the t,ro
po&al.
SK1PT0N*. — As shags arc destroving a large
number of tish in the Emu River, *tlie anglera'
club is otfering a bonus of 1/ per head for ail
birds shot near the township. Sportsmen have
been on the alert, and IT birds have already been
