THE LATE CAPTAIN W. R.
DAVIDSON, M.C.
General Birdwood's Congratulations.
Recently Captain W. R. Davidson, son of In
specting Superintendent Davidson, of the Police
department, who had previously been missing, was
declared officially dead. Yesterday Inspecting
Superintendent Davidson received from General
Birdwood, a letter intended for his soldier son,
reading: — 'I am very pleased to see that your
good work and devotion to duty has been recog
nised hy the award of the Military Cross, on which
I send you my heartiest congratulations. I know
that you have displayed marked administrative
ability an adjutant of your battalion for many
months now, in which capacity you have ren
dered consistently good service at all times and
under most trying circumstances. Your fine
example of courage and coolness under heavy
fire, and the prompt manner in which you have
grasped the situation, and organised the neces
sary parties in emergency, have been of the
greatest value. Your service throughout has
been of a very high order, and I thank you
much for it.'
