KAY /RETAINS TITLE. I
SYDNEY.— ''Fred' Kay; middle-weight cham
pion otf Australia, boxed 4 ?Tommy' Uren, the
welter-weiglrt champion, at tlie stadium on Satur- 1
day night for the 'middle-weight title. Kay re
ceived bhe deolaion on points. Both boxere were
well within the middle-weight poundage. Tlie
decision met wrtth a hostile reception from a large
section of the spectators, who favored Uren. The
contest Was fought at a fast rate from beginning
t«- end. There were some fine and exciting ral
lies, and hard punches were landed by both men.
Uren was the stronger in the flnisliing rounds. ,
He was down twice during the contest, but waa
on his feet again well to time. Kay had his'
?right eye opened in the eleventh teron wiih a 1
backhand punch with the right. ' The match waa
interesting from two points of view. Kay did
more fighting at close quarters than he usually -
does, and Uren gave a remarkably fine exhibition I
of forcefuj and clever right, haikH work. |
