' CITY POLICE COURT.
Saturday, 18 th June.

Drunkards, &a. — Michael Mahoney and William
O'Slianassy, were chargod as drunkards, and fined 5s
each. — Thomas Johnston was sent to gaol for two
months as a vagrant. — Michael J. Stephenson, for
insulting behavior in tho stroet, and for being a ' lap
loafer,' was sent to gaol for threo months with hard
labor. — Norah Edmunds and Mary Ann Thomas,
for misconduct in Great Bourko street, were fined
5s each, or forty-eight lioura. — Thos. Jacobs and
Thos. Beckett, alias Bennett, wero charged with being
in a public placo with intent to commit a felony. —
They were arrested early that morning, and In
spector Haro askod for a remand to Monday, which
was allowed. — Kate Herbert was brought up on
warrant charged with threatening tho life of Mrs
Catherine West. The defendant dropped on tho floor
of tho court in a faint as soon as sho took her placo,
and tho bench having questioned tho prosecutrix,
and found that it was an ordinary female brawl, dis
missed tho caso. — Michael Logan, for having no
namo on liis dray, and not having it duly regis
tered, was fined 20s.— William Eccles, for not having
his name on his dray according to the act, was
fined 20s ; and Henry Dally was fined the same
amount for a similar offence.
Juvenile Thieves. — Thomas and. Michael Hast
ings, two brothers, young lads about fourteen aud
eleven years of ago, apprentices to Mr Politz, cigar
manulacturer, wero cliargea with stealing cigars, tlio
property of their master. Montague Harvey, the
manager of the manufactory, stated that theso boys
had been in the habit of taking away cigars from the
promises and selling them in tho streets on the way
home. They had bartered cigars for pies with a boy
in the street. Another apprentice lad, named Chas.
Smithers, stated that ono day last weok ho saw tho
littlo boy, Michael, tako twenty cigars, and after
wards givo somo to tho pie-boy and receive a pie in
exchange. Ho had also seen the elder boy, Thomas,
take four cigars and givo them to tho pie-boy, and
get a pie and two cakes in exchange. The father of
tho boys intimated that ho could mako no excuso for
his sons, but ho pleaded hard to save them from
punishment, promising, if they were given over to
his care, thoy should bo looked after in Jiituro, and
nothing of tho sort should occur again. Thoy wero
remanded to Monday.
A Deserter. — Alfred Brooks, brought up, on
warrant,' as a deserter from tho 12th Regiment, was
remanded to head quarters.
Charge against an Apprentice. — Dominic Cal
lanan was remanded to Monday on a charge of mis
conduct as an apprentice, and for assaulting Jacob
Speicher.
