Sergeant S. J. Sweetland
(died of wounds) was the elder son of Mr. and
Mrs. H. Sweetland, of Victoria-street, Box Hill, of
wliich he was a native. He was 29 years ot age,
und left Attstralisi on 29th February List with the
tecond division of thc Light norse. Educated at
Wesley College, the late Sergeant Sweetland
pas**l all tlie examinations for accountancy. prior !
io leaving the.se shares. Talcing a keen interest
in sport and athletics, Tie had been a prominent
player of South Yarra football team, and was a
foundation member of both the Surrey l'ark Swim
mers' Club and Box Hill Goli Club. For the
former body he acted aa secretary and treasurer
for a considerable time. Sergeant Sweetland was
ah'-o one of the first mtunbera of Box Hill branch
A.N-.A., and had served on the committee.
Corporal A. K. Eadie
(killed in action) was youngest son of Air. and
Mrs. J, Eadie, of 106 l'unt*ioad, Richmond, 21
years of age, and a member.-of B Company, 7th
IJ.ittalion. He vm nn old Yarrn Park schoolboy
aud played for Victoria ngainst Sew South Wales
and Tar.nwnia in the State school inter-Siate foot
ball matehe*. Three seasons ago he played witli
Kichmond Rowing Club, and was nlterwards a
playing member of Beverley club. He was ban

Private James R. Chambers
(died of wounds) was the eldest son of Mr. and
Mre. Robert Chambers, of Brighton-street, . East
Richmond. He was 32 years of age, and fought
in the Boer war. Four sons of Mrs Chambers
left with the forces for Gallipoli, and two have
since been killed..Private Chambers was a nephew
of Cr. S. A Chambers, J.P., of Prahran.
Private Charles Fincher,
who mio killed in the landiut- it Gallipoli. was
jea.-s of ase, an/1 resided Aiitli his parents at
Iauriston. lie was an enthusiastic fooUiallcr, and
ir. his time played for tihe Kjneton Ifctnict, Uai
lorat, South Melbourne and Essendon clute. Two

Private C. C. Merritt
(wounded) is 21 yeire of age, and is the eon of
Mrs. A. Herri tt, of Welshpool. lie is one off
Urree brothers who enlisted in September in thc
Sth Light Horse, ajid was iwounthsj after being
io tiie trenches for eight weeks. His uncle, Ser*
gnant P. Crawford, who was lender of Uie Scouts
in tiio Boer war, where he gnined distinction, was
also in the 8th Light lloive, ami was kililc-l in
action on 23rd June at the Dardanelles.
