? SEAMEN ENTERTAIN ED 'BY THE
MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
Following previous custom, all sailors in
port were invited to spend the (holiday at
the Zoological Gardens, whew the director,
Mr. Dudley le Snuef, kindly placed a pad
dock at their disposal for sports and tea.
Between 00 and 70 were able to avail them-,
selves of the invitation, and after dinner,
served at the institute, the party proceeded
by- train to thc gardens. Tlie wild beasts
were duly inspected, and some of the tars
mounted tihe elephant and rode round the
enclosure. A large number of Indies, mem
bers of the Ladies' Harbor X.ielit'. Guild,'
accompanied the party. In tlie evening
Archbishop Clarke addressed a large con
gregation in the seamen's chapel, and gave
them a new year message to avoid evil nnd
be :truq to their Jietier nature ill the new
year. At a musical social and sing-song
the Archbishop, at the request of the chap
lain, distributed the prizes won by the suc
cessful competitors at tihe afternoon
sport/?.
