PATERSONIA
On Wednesday evening a farewell social
and coffee supper was held in the Wesleyan
school-room to say '"Good-bye " to Mr R. W.
Swainston on the eve of his departure from
the district. Mr Penman, representing St.
Patrick's River, made some complimentary
remarks as ta Mr Swainston's ability as a
teacher, the esteem in which he was held by
the parents and children, and regretted
very much that they were to lose one who
had proved himself a friend of the district.
Mr McArthur, representing Patersonia, said
he did not know what they were going
to do without Mr Swainston, as he
had proved himself a good all-round
man. They not only lost a teacher, but a
Sabbath school worker, musician preacher,
and one who had always identified himself
with everything that was for the good of
the district and, he personally, felt much in
debted to him for the help he had received
from some of his addresses. Mr Skemp, in
a humorous speech, referred to the help
that Mr Swainton had willingly rendered to
Myrtle Bank at their evening gatherings,
and trusted be would be highly successful
at his new school, Paloona. Mr Swain
ston thanked them all for their ex
pressions of esteem, and said, while
he was sorry to leave his many friends,
it was very pleasing to know that
he was leaving the district with the good
will of those with whom he had been asso
ciated. ihe following contributed to the
evening's enjoyment : Messrs. B. Skemp,
Carins (2), Mackey, McArthur, Mill
wood, Smith. The arrangements ef the
supper were in Mrs J. Millwood's hands,
and excellently carried out. The address
which waa to be presented at this meeting
will be forwarded at an early date The
