Tbe following Extract from Beport by Mr
A. B A VILLB, a well-known miner at Lefroy,
will give all Information : —
1 beg to state the following work done by
myself and party : — The fint sbaf t we sunk
bottomed at twenty-five feet (25ft), and ob
tained a nice sample of rough gold, and as
the laprtom was dipping very fast into the
line we decided to sink the shaft another
SOtt ; we then again cut the wash 13ft from
shaft, and got fair prospects of rough gold,
but not payable ; the bottom here was again
?till dipping away from us Into the hill. We
then tried to follow the bottom down, bnt
could sot do so on account of tbe water. The
prospects here were so encouraging that we
decided to sink another shaft 60ft higher up
the hill to endeavor to get the bottom of tbe
gutter, as we feel certain we could get good
payable gold. This shaft we sank 60ft and
SOt bottom, which waa still dipping away.
We then eank the shaft another 16ft, and
again struck the wash, carrying nice gold,
with no sign of the bottom of the gatter,
and SI the bottom vnt dipping so fast into
tbe hill we had to abandon it, as the water
was too heavy for the windlass, and we bad
not the necessary capital for other appli
ances.
I do not hesitate In stating that If another
Shaft was sunk 50ft kigher up the hill the
bottom of the gutter would be found carry
ing good payable gold, but this work cannot
be done with the windlass.
