partment, and pointed out the practical
impossibility of estimating the goodwill
of their businesses, because it : varies
greatly in different circumstances. For j
example, if the present owners or man
agers of a business were to go with it
the value of tlie goodwill would be con
siderable, but without them it would
practically nil. The answer to the
question, in the words of the Common- i
'Wealth Statistician, is as follows: 'If

goodwill of it: therefore, he must estt-J

to make up his mind what the goodwill

Apart from those who liavo a disnnsi
tion for creating difficulties, and meet
ing tbe trouble half-way, it is recognised
that large numbers of people, will t ex-
