GEELOSG LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Saturday, 2Sth May, 1S51'.
Messrs. OTiUUKLt., Soy, and report—
Our yards during the week have been su; 1
with stock of a very inferior description j out
tliis day the tnnkat was well filled with horse
stock of a useful stamp, which were disposed of
St extreme prices. The Bale was well attended,
»ad tbe t^^ngamiiiafcqil.' On tlio whole we con*:
aider there is A\decided improvement in the
market.' " Tlie supply or working bullocks and
daily cattle oi a really good quality was small, but
our yards were almost crowded with cattle of an
inferior and unsaleable kind.
Houses.—There wa3 no fust-class draught
horses in the market, but a good supply of me
dium and light harness horses, which met with
ready sale., Colts and fillies were in lively com
petition, and sold well. The following were the
actual prices realised at our bazaar this day:—The
entire horse Clyde, £120; 1 brood mare £3ti; 1
ditto £22 10s, the property of Mrs Lyons, of
Colac j medium draught horses sold at £30, £32
10s, £34, £3?, £30 10s, £50, £55; inferior
draught were not in great demand to-day, and
only a few sold from £18 to £24. Superior gig
and saddle horses were readily disjKwed of at from
£30 to £50 ; the black horse advertised realised
£40. Kough .hacks sold pretty freely from £S to
£12. Colts' and'fillies adapted for light harness
sold from £12 to £20.
AVohkiug Bullocks.—'The supply of first-class
bullocks are rery bad, although the inquiries for
them during the last three weeks have been al
most numberless. Ordinary workers came freely
to hand, and sold from L15 to L20 per pair. In
ferior pairs from L4 to Lti. Ordinary teams of
six bullocks, with dray, botes, yokes, and chains,
sold from. L50 to L70. AVe have advices of a
team of'superior bullocks for next Saturday.
Dairy Cattle.—Our yards were filled with
cattle of an inferior quality, consequently the
prices ruling were low. Intending buyers were
numerous for first-class inilch cows, with, young
calves at foot, but many of them had to return
1 Lowe misapplied. Tliis insufficiency in the supply
of really good milch cows in full milk, we believe
will be remedied next Saturday,, when we antici
pate realising extraordinary jtrices for this clasa of
dairy cattle. Prices current—First class milch
corns in full milk, from Lib to L15 30s; second
class ditto, from L7 to L9 10s; dry cows, from
L3 to L510& - . . . ..
Store Cattle.—Very few inquiries; prices low.
Pigs.—There were about 10U of different ages
and sizes in the market today, and the bidding
was exceedingly brisk, resulting in the sale of every
Jot^and-atgobd pricea..vTkaAtaa^&^£x^
of the supply. ^
