FALSE PRETENCES.
A-charge of obtaining a motor engine
by false pretences was brought'against
a young man named Edward Wickens at
I tho city police court to-day. Edgard
Tozer, a cycle and motor manufacturer
who carries on business in Melbourne,
said that in July last Wickens asked
him if he would let him have a motor en
gine to put with a car which was being
built, to the order of Dr. Joske. He
agreed to let him.have-one, on condition
that £25, which was owing on account of
another transaction, was paid. This ac
count was not settled, and Wickens, in j
tho absence of Tozer, was supplied by his
clerk with a motor, the price of which is
£22/10/-.- This lie subsequently pawned
for £5, and a subsequent advance:- The
young innn, who reserved his defence,
was committed for trial.
