THE THIRD TEST MATCH.
Cricket lovers are looking forward with
keen interest to the third test match,
which is to be opened during the presont
week, and the prevalent opinion appears
to be t'hat with a fair division of luck
Australia should win, notwithstanding
tho two victories won by the Englishmen.
Shonld Mr. Warner's combination prove
successful, it will mean that the English-,
nion have won tho rublier, hut even in
that case the remaining two games will
be keenly fought by both sides. Public
opinion concurs with the understood de
termination of the selectors to pass over
Saunders this time, but opinion is divid
ed as to whether M'Leod or Trott should
be in his place. Whilst M'Leod's wicket
takes a lot of getting, and his howling a
lot of playing, Trott is the finer batsman
when style and power are taken into ac
count, and his slow break bowling may
dissolve a partnership which has with
stood all that, the fast and medium pace
howlers have been capable of. Then there
is George Giffen. His recent form indi
cates that there is a lot of good play still
left in the veteran, and although ho may
not he able to still lay claim to the proud
titlo of the best all-round man in .Aus
tralia, lie is still, it may be contended,
good enough to make a worthy second
representative of his state.
