SANDER & SONS' EUCALYPTI EXTRACT.—
Under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty
the King of Italy, as per communication ma*e by tbo
Minister of Foreign Affairs through the Consul
General for Italy at Melbourne, 14th .March. 1S78.
Avarded Diploma at the Amsterdam Exhibition,
1883. Acknowledged by Medical Clinics and Univer
sities all over the world.
There axe imitations of Enoalyptl Extract in the
market, products of simple distillation forming crude
resinous oils. In order that these crude oils may not
betaken for our Pure "Volatile Eucalypti Extract,
which is recognised by the medical division of the
Prussian Government to be of perfectly pure origin,
as per information forwarded to us through the Consul
at Melbourne, 2nd March, 1878, we atste:—
It is proved by tests made by the Medical Clinics
of the Universities at Bonn and Greifswald (Prussia),
and reported by Dr. Shulz, Professor of Pharmacology
at Bonn, and Professor Dr. Mdsler, Director of the
Medical Clinic at Greifswald. that only products thas
are saturated with oxygen and freed of adds, resinon
and other substances, adherent to primary dhtlllat
taon, will develop the sanative qualities proper to the
plant. All erode oils, or so-called Eucalypti Extract!,
are to be classed according to the named authorities
among the turpentines which ere of insignificant
medicinal value, and abandoned long aioce as an
internal medicament. These erode oils, or ao-called
Eucalypti Extracts, are discernible—
1. fty their deficiency in pungent odor (which our
product, the only genuine Eucalypti Extract,
develops most freely through it* surplus of
oxygen).
2. By their alcoholic, thin, and mobile appear
ance, being reduced in specific density
through the presence of acids.
3. By their taste, the result of the contracting
tendency of resins and tanats.
If these crude oils, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts,
are applied by mistake in cases of crorp bronchitis,
diphtheria, internal inflammation, dysentery, Ac., the
consequences are most appalling. For safety sake
ask always for Sander & Sons' Eucalypti Extract.—

The Pot Calling the Kettle Black.—
Explorer Stanley met with a very cold recep
tion on his recent visit to Paris, having given
great offence by his scoffing and ungenerous
remarks with reference to the French explorer
De Brazza. These were made at a banquet
given in Stanley's honor by the representatives
of the English and American Press in Paris.
Stanley spoke of De Brazza's wretched
appearance—ragged and shoeless—when he
met him on the Congo, in a manner that
justified the criticism that his extensive
intercourse with savages had proved fatal to
those delicate feelings which he might once
have possessed. It was, however, an after
dinner speech, and it is probable that the
explorer, when it was too late to remove the
bad impression, fully realized the mistake he
had made. According to Stanley's account
his own appearance in the frightful forest
that he succeeded in traversing at the price of
unprecedented endeavor and endurance conld
not hare been very imposing from the
European point of view. He has declared
that his boots and clothes rotted from the
moisture, and that he was reduced to a state
of absolute nakedness. His condition was,
therefore, such as to have scandalized De
Brazza, even when this explorer' was in his
most tattered state. Au African traveller
should be the last person in the world to
estimate another by his clothes.

"LOOK THEN INTO THY HEART AND
WRITE."
THE above sentence read carefully
will tell all I could in a thousand lines. It
adapts itself admirably to a large number of cases
continually coming under our treatment.
Many who "loo into their hearts" at the reading of
this advertisement, and who ponder over it, will say
I know I should write,for I have a great secret there
in my heart, hidden deep down, and I fear every day
something will shortly show itself by some plain symp
toms and make the secret known to my fellow men,
and cause me to be pointed out as an object of pity or
scorn.
" Look into thy heart" and say it is better for me to
see aid and get relief by writing to one man in whom
I have confidence, with whom my secret is safe, and
whose aid and council will cause my life hereafter to
be happy, maing me say with the proverb—"Rejoice,
O Young Man in thy Yonth."
" Look then into thy heart and write," for hundreds
have written to me when it has been too late, and
who, in place of having " Children lie olive branches
round about their table," have their homes desolate
and feel it a reproach upon thir manhood to live.
"Look then into thy heart and write," and remem
ber that "As thy days so shall thy strength be," and
that by writing down your case no eyes bnt my own
see it, that relief mentally and physically can be given
to yon, and that in place of sin ing into a dishonored
and premature death yon can feel that, in the words of
Wordsworth—"An old age sereneand brightand lovely
as a Lapland night, shall lead thee to thy grave."

AN INTERESTING LETTER
ntov a wxu-raowx
SPECIALIST.
DR. JAMES D. LLEWELLYN, who If duly
Qualified and Registered by the Medical
Boards ol Victoria and New South Wales, is aware
that by departing from the usual routine ol
practioe and devoting himself exclusively to a special
branch, which he has done for some time, he is not
strictly following the paths of professional etiquette;
but, as a considerable body of the profession are still
disposed to stand coldly aloof from anyone of their
number who acquires popularity in the treatment of
certain ailments and is really a Medical Specialist, he
does not hesitate to resort to what he considers
legitimate means for the purpose of disarming cynical
criticism, and of engaging as far as he is able the con.
fldence of the public. It is assuredly better to seek
assistance from the qualified practitioner in preference
tothequaek.
The true designation of quackery belongs to those
Shameless adventurers who, without a particle of
medical knowledge or a tittle ol claim to the humblest
department of the profession, practise extortion and
deceit, advertising their nostrums as ctras alls ; men
of the lowest grade of intellect and responsibility,
whose assurance iB as unbounded as their promises
are specious. Such men abound in Melbourne, Sydney,
and other towns in Australia, and by their flaming
advertisements attract the attention of the unwary.
The mischief to the health by swallowing the nostrums
of these personsia oftentimes irretrievable, besides the
money totally wasted in purchasing, at exorbitant
rates, their so-called curative appliances.
The argument is, that the every-day enlightenment
of mankind should protect them from resorting to the
unprincipled; that if physic be a science, it should be
honoured and respected as such; that the necessary
inquiry and reflection should direct tbe visit from the
nostrum-monger to the respectable practitioner. Rut
alas ! tbe dilemma in which a man finds himself when
suffering from the follies of his own imprudence, and
which he is anxious to conceal, renders him more
solicitous to shun the respectable man and to creep
into nooks and corners for counsel and consolation.
Every member of tbe profession is too proud of his
qualifications to hide them under a bushel. Dr.
Llewellyn is a legally qualified and registered
medical practitioner and also holds high testimonials
which allpatients may inspect.
The widespread evils and diseases arising from
imprudence cannot be too generally known, and
it is to be hoped that any reader of this paragraph
who may suffer from these special complaints,
will be awakened to their fearful consequences.
If there be any amongst the readers of this letter
who have unhappily fallen into objectionable habits,
and are suffering in consequence, and are unwilling to
hand an enfeebled constitution to their offspring, I
would earnestly charge them to lose no time, but seek
at once a means of cure, so that they may be restored
to pristine health and vigour, before the evil becomes
too deeply seated.
To those about to many, and who are either
conscious or doubtful as to their suffering from a
latent taint or weakness in their systems, a sense ol
duty on their part should unquestionably prompt
them to seek the advice of a competent medical man.
Any such one applying to me for counsel and help
may rest assured that my treatment will be vigorously
directed to cure permanently any local defect or
weakness, and place him in that fitting condition
of health, that he can afterwards honourably marry.
To anyone whose confidence In the possibility of a
satisfactory and permanent cure has been shaken by
the conduct of various advertising parties, who are
only medical pretenders with no real knowledge of
tiie human body, and are in the habit of sending the
same so-called Remedy to aU who apply to them, or
who have been victimised by any of the horde of
Quacks, who have for years preyed upon the in
experienced, and whose only object is gein, whose
boastful pretensions but veil their ignorance; to any
such sufferers I would say, " Do not be desponding,
and do not despair of a cure, but apply to me, or to
any other reliable medical man, skilled in these special
ailments; and the result will be all you could desire."
As a laborer in the field of fair dealing, I doubt not
experiencing at least the reward of the approval of
every honest man, and wish for nothing more ; hoping
my exertionB will prevent the young and inexperienced
from wasting their money on the various advertised
nostrums.
Lastly, Ihave no hesitation InassnringsufTerers that
they will receive from me the most straightforward
and honourable treatment, combined with undoubted
skill, kindly sympathy, and the most inviolable
confidence, whether they visit me at my consulting
rooms, or communicate with me by letter, which will
have my immediate attention.
Tours truly,
JAMES D. LLEWELLYN.
