PORTLAND.
April 5th.
COWS POISONED BY HEMLOCK.
The mysterious death of a number of
cows has been traced to the eating of
hemlock, a poisonous plant frequently
cultivated by owners of flower gardens,
and commonly known as carrot fern.
The Chief Inspector of Stock says it is
intended to shortly proclaim hemlock
as a noxious plant, and in the meantime
he is urging all owners of gardens to era-
dicate it voluntarily.
