NEW AIR SERVICE.
MELBOURNE TO ADELAIDE.
Commercial aviation in Australia
will be advanced a further stage on
March 14th. when Australian Aerial
Services, Ltd. will inaugurate a
regular daily service between Mel
bourne and Adelaide. Two Lascowl
nine-seater aeroplanes, fitted with 500
h.p. Arnistrong-Siddeley Jaguar en
gines will be used.
The services will be operated over
three routes, and each route will be
covered, in both directions, on alter
nate days. The routes will be as
follows:—
Route No. 1—Via Geelong, Birre
gurra, Camperdown, Terang, Mort
lake, Hamilton. Narracoorte, Border
town, Tailem Bend, and Murray
Bridge to Adelaide.
Route No. 2—Via Geelong, Birre
gurra, Camperdown, Terang, Warr
nambool, Portland. Mount Gambier,
Millicent, Robe, and Meningie to Ade
laide.
Route No. 3.—Adjacent to main Mel
bourne-Adelaide railway through Bal
larat, Ararat, Horsham, Dimboola,
Nhill, Bordertown, and Murray Bridge
to Adelaide.
The aeroplanes will leave Mel
bourne and Adelaide each day at half
past seven o'clock in the morning,
reaching their destination at approxi
mately 2 o'clock. Exact !ini:s of
arrival will be announced later. Ar
rangements will he mads for the
machines to pick up or set down pas
sengers at towns with landing
grounds.
As a preliminary means of directing
attention to No. 1 Route, and to foster
commercial air travel, the Australian
Aerial Services, in co-operation with
the proprietors of "The Argus" and
the Shell Company of Australia
Limited, have arranged to conduct an
aviation day at Hamilton on the open
ing"" day of the service. Aviation
days at other towns of call are being
arranged in the near future.
