The Story of the Australian
Stage
RECOLLECTIONS of the Australian stage are long over
due. For some time Table Talk has been searching for the
right man to tell the fascinating story of the beginning and
gradual rise of the theatre in Australia, and some of the
stars who have appeared. But he has been hard to find. The
memoir writer must be sufficiently detached from his sub
ject to be able to present an unbiassed and frank, and honest
story yet close enough to give intimate information which
alone makes the story worth reading.
Mr. Musgrove fulfils all these requirements, and his tale
is all the more fascinating by reason of the prominent part
he has played in international cricket, as manager of an
Australian team in England, as well as a maker of cric
keting records himself as a player.
The tale is sprinkled profusely with intimate stories of
names which have nowbecome household words in Aus
tralia and in England, and in the opening instalment this
week prefaces as fascinating a story of the stage and the
cricket field as has been told for many a long day.
Your friends, if they are not already readers of Table
Talk, would be grateful to you for calling their attention to
this unique series, and we would be grateful, too, for en
larging our circle of readers.
