Thirsting for Panaceas
.lust loolc at the numbers who aro thirsting
after nil sorts of panaceas — for salvation.
I deny that they want salvation as we
Christians understand it. They thirst
for panaceas of this world's ills so that
thoy can onjoy this world's goods and
bodily comforts and pleasures, without
concomitant penalties. They want what
'they' want, not what God wants them

wrong, they naturally shy off from the
means to the right end. Rejecting the
supernatural end or destiny which God
offers, they propose another end to be
attained independently of Him. All
they know is that all tho means they
have tried so far to get to their self
constituted end have failed. But they
won't renounce the material and selfish
end they propose to attain. So they are
still trying and grasping at all sorts of
panaceas— and are left still thirsty.
Thero are some who talco a tumble to
themselves, as we say, and decide to
change their direction, looking to God
at last. These men find the only pos
sible panacea for the ills of life, not by
escaping from them, but by being happy
In the 'midst of them. But thoso who
won't see what they see, refuse to bo
advised by them.
