CAPTAIN Joel Phillips, of the B.H. Junction, ex

very careful in the opinions he expresses.

SALT Junk, El line, has had a, trial orushing of 60
tons, which yielded 30 ozs. 15 dwt. This must be re
garded as satisfactory, as the stone came from ttie
western roef, looked upon as the poor one in the
company's lease.

THE McKimmie, a Melbourne owned Dundas
concern, is raising ore worth over *813 per ton. If the
company has much of that class of stuff in si^ht
shareholders are to be congratulated on possessing
n rattling property.

THE affairs of the Curtin-Davis Junction are

approaching an interesting stage. A number of the
largest shareholders petitioned the legal manager
to convene a meeting of the directors, but the
roquest has been ignored.

CENTRAL Plateau, 714 tons for 641 oza. is more than
satisfactory. The company pays a first Is. dividend,
and if the output of similar stone can be largely in
creased, the prospects of muoh larger dividends
would be exceptionally good.

THE Duke of Manchester, Malmsbury, blossoms
into the New Wyndham Extended, a Ballarat man
having bought it. A year ago a Melbourne oom
pany tackled the Duke of Manchester, but closed up
liofore doing any work of importance.

UNCLE Tom, at Grant, has at last commenced to

_ The South German maintains its character of
improving with depth. A winze being sunk from
the bottom level got on to some very rich stone the
other day, which proves the dut to be operated on
when the next level is in with mill well up to the

average.

THE Malmabury people are going to keep to them
selves a Lauriston property now being floated in
30.000 5s. shares, and to be known as the North
Wyndham Gold Mining Company. The largest
shareholder in the concern is Mr. Archibald Middle
miss, a local butcher, who holds 4,000 shares.

MJC. J. Wesley Hall, the Mount Morgan million
aire, is going to boom the Oakleigh goldfield. He
starts with a company to be called the Black Plat
North Gold Mining Company. Mr. George Kelly
and Mr. W. P. McGregor also have an interest in
the venture, evidently intended for reflotation.

THE Great Southern Junction, Rutherglen, has
called up .£1925 during the past six months. The
wash so far driven through has averaged about
14dwt. to the fathom,,'and if the mine continues to
open up as well as it is now doing shareholders may
congratulate themselves on having a good time

ahead.

WEST Australians will no doubt be pleased to
hear that Mr. Scantlebury, who dresses down their
mines so caustically in a Sydney paper, bit his
fingers badly over speculating in the General Gordon
"pups." He acted on a kind friend's advice to buy,
and he is now looking for the market with a
miorosoope.

SYNDICATES are very busy in Tasmania just now.
The Great Western Railway organisation is the
centra of attraction amongst them, which, by the
way, is a fair sample of the syndicates floating
around. Those associated with mining are constantly
hearing of the offers of syndicates and Bohemes for
amalgamation.

! THE New Wyndham, at Lauriston, has struck the
Nelson lode at the 210ft. level. The stone is over
2ft. thick, and gives a nice prospect. For some
reason the shares have lately declined, presumably
owing to the smallneas of the golden shoot being
operated on, so this new development should
strengthen prices.

RUSSELL'S Reef Amalgamated spent about .£600
on an air compressing plant during the half-year, and
finishes the term .£200 in debt. The company
anticipates cutting the continuation of the stone
recently struck in the South Russell's with a 30 ft.
crosscut from the No. 1 shaft. The Russell's should
have about 340 ft. of the reef to work.

A FIND of copper has been made at the Brother
Jonathan mine at Black Flag. A sample of stone
assayed in Perth showed a heavy percentage of
oopper, 48 oz. .of silver, and 2 oz. 9 dwts. per ton of
gold. This complex ore is being bagged with n view
of sending it to England. The lode is about 6 ft.
wide, and the mine is situated near the proposed
Coolgardie-Menzies railway line.

the oompany has sustained .£5758 17a. 8d. on invest

MB. K. MA.CE has succeeded in plaoing mast ®f
the shares in the Mount Black Proprietary, Tas
mania. The greater portion of the shares have been
subscribed for in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney,
and sufficient oapital has boon raised to thoroughly
test the lodes. It is oxpooted that sinking oan bo
carried out to a depth of 60 ft. to 80 ft. without
machinery, whioli will prove the largest lode. The
property in woll situated in a district thought muoh
of by the Tasmanian Government Geologist, Mr. A.
Montgomery, and which is bound to com® to the
front at an early dp te. It is immediately uouth of
the South Rosebory, wliioli ia adjoining the Ro«#
bery. The ore in the Mount Blaok Proprietary
lodes, as shown by assays made by Mr. J. G. A.
Stitt, is of very considerable value, and even now
tlio ovo buyers will purchase it. With tke ereotion
of concentrators tho ove coi^ld be brought up to *,

.£20 or .£30 per ton standard. Assays from the
surface shaft show up to 100 oz. silver, 22 per cent,
copper, and nearly an ounce of gold per ton, with,
other valuable minerals associated. There are a few
shares yet obtainable. The show seems to be really
good.

"WALLACE'S Bethanga mine has, according to the
Federal Standard, definitely " gone over to John Bull
and Company. The property is a real ringer, and
one that will toss out bulky profits when worked on
the large scale. The new company contemplates
working on a large scale, and already 25,000 British
sovereigns-the first instalment of the .£50,000 work
ing capital-are to hand, and no time will be lost in
expanding the chlorination plant to a turning out
capacity of 4000oz. a month. Scrippers in the old
150,000 share company receive share for share in tha
new 300,000 concern, 60,000 of which rank as prefer
ence shares, carrying 8 per cent, per annum. Messrs.
J. A. Wallace and Agar Wynne, M's.L.C., and Mr.
Albert Beaver, of P. Falk and Company, are the
Victorian directors, with a swagger board in London
to draw fat fees. Paying these figureheads must
sear the heart of 'Johnny' Wallace, who holds nearly
100,000 shares."
