ItAILWAY GANG LABORERS
WANTED I
. .Throughout the State of New
South Wales' there is a total of
6128 miles of railway track, and
every mile of that track demands
constant attention to ensure that
It Is knot lri first-class condition.
Ittis a/ task of considerable mag
nitude to .maintain regular and
.safe, conveyance of passengers
and .goods.-, traffic. Very/ little'
thought, however, Is given to this
phase of railway operations . by
the thousands of travellers who
Journey daily: along the' tracks.- ? I
? Men and materials must be
provided1 to maintain these'
tracks to the standard required,
and while materials are coming
forward at a reasonable rate. of
supply, it is necessary to recruit
additional men for employment
in per-way and extra gangs. i
Men who accept such ern-'
ployment will be required to
camp at a location near to the;
point of duty, and are allow
ed a camping allowance- of 4/ (
per night in addition to the
award rate, of pay. Tent, stret
cher, lamp, buckets, fuel and
water are supplied free, while1
blankets and cooking utensils
may be purchased at low cost on j
an instalment-purchase basis, j
Free ' passes are allowed to em- j
ployees to enable them to return
to their homes at week-ends. |
