LACROSSE.
BY CHECKER.
Only one goal was the result of the match
between the reds and blues last Saturday;
Lyons secured this, and thus another Victory
to the reds. The rubber was Bet in motion
shortly after the usual time, Jones getting it
up towards the red flags, and after a short
tussle between Lyons ana Walker the former
got possession, and by a fine throw landed it
up to the other end, and between Fry and
Beech, for the reds,, some neat passings
ensued, but Forbes and Heale were soon to
the rescue, andqmcklysentitontothecentre.
Jones here secured the ball, and in en
deavouring ? to dodge Fitzgerald was well
checked by the latter, and Lyons sent it on
again to fry, and between him, Beech, and
Stabback it was kept homing across the
front of the blue posts for some minutes, and
was at length driven behind. Forbes threw
it off to the centre, and Tribe assisted its
progress up to. Walker, who, in endeavouring
, to dodge the feds'captain, lost possession,
and a struggle ensued between Fraser,
Walker, and Tribe for the blues, and
Barclsy.Lynns, and S. Eville for the reds,
whiehcnted^in the bines getting it behind.

motion in every put of the field, both reds
and blues putting in some good work. Heale
and Forbes once got it in close quarters to
the red posts, where it was kept for a while,
but owing to the fine defence of the reds, the
onlyresuit was a couple of behinds, which
followed oneanother in quick succession.
Then Lyons secured the ball in the centre,
and by one or two smart dodges succeeded in
bringing it to the side of the blue flags, but
neither Fookes nor P. Eville would permit

who had an excellent chance of scoring, as the
goalwas left momentarily almost neglected.
The red, however, failed to take advantage of
the chance, and the ball was quickly forced
away. Lyons was persistent, and again came
with a second and third rush at the posts,
but he was ably checked by Fookes and P.
Eville,. and the game soon afterwards ter
minated.' It is satisfactory to notice with
what a deal of warmth, and interest these
matches are now, generally speaking,
contested, especially if the numbers are
at all equal. Last Saturday's match
was: .splendidly contested all . through,
several new members taking an active part
in it. Judging by what I .have seen during
the last two or three weeks, Forbes seeins to
be developing into a fine thrower: if
could numngft to pitch lower he would una
his throws more effective. Beech, Fry. ana
