The death of Baroness Alphonse de Rothsn
child, which occurred at Paris, ie announced
by cable. A eieter of Lord Rothschild, she
was married in 1857 to Baron Alphonse de
Rothschild, who died in 1905.
Captain Thomas Sanderson, who until hie
retirement from the position of chief har
bourmaster about five years ago wag a
prominent figure in shipping circles, died on
Saturday at his home in Canterbury.
Mr. M'Cutcheon, MX.A., intends to visit
England for the Coronation, and will be
accompanied by Mrs. M'Cutcheon.

! The death occurred on Monday, at hie
residence, South Yarra, of Sir. Henry Shel
ton, B.A., one of the senior inspectors of
State Schools. Mr. Shelton, who was 62
years old, was a graduate of the Melbourne
University, and was at different times in
charge of the Wimmera, Warrnambooi, Bal
larat, and metropolitan districts.
Colonel J. C. Neild liias been seriously ill
for some time, and by medical advice hia
family have removed him to the Prince
Alfred Hospital. Sydney, where it is hoped
that the; expert care ne will receive wiil
increase the improvement which has. be*
come manifest.
>Sir Thomas Ewing, ex-M.H.R., was pre
sented at Lismore on January 11 with a
cheque for £235, the result of a voluntary
movement for the recognition of his ser
vices as representative for the .district in
the State and Federal Parliaments for "a
period of about 25. years.
