CARLTON V. RICHMOND.
The second match of the season between the Carl
ton and Richmond tHubs was played on Saturday
afternoon at the IVince'e Oval, C&tlton. There was a
large attendance of spectators. The Richmond cap
tain won the toss, and play commenced at about a
quarter past 3, liickards kicking off for Carlton. The
home team kept the ball well down in the Richmond
end for some time, when it was returned round tho
south wing, trom which Richmond's first goal was
kicked. Ibis was followed by a cold for Carlton,
scoied by liickards, and a second by Leydin. After
numerous attacks and counter attacks, in which
Richmond bad more than one chance for goal, Gel
lally marked from Raker, and kicked third coal for
Carlton, and another by Wlielan was got just before
quarter time, when the score stood—Carlton. 4 goats
2 behinds ; Richmond, 1 "oil 1' behind. The game
having been resumed, Richmond had to stand on the
defensive for a little, Johnston marking and trying un
successfully for goal. The visitors then made a game
attack, which proved fruitless from the good play of
Blootafieid ana Whelan for Carlton. Then the local
men carried the ball down again, and after a shot by
Hickards, Lcydin and Baker each got a goal, and the
seventh by Richards was obtained with a splendid
kick. At halt-time the game stood—Carlton, 7 goals
8 behinds; Richmond, 1 goal I behind. During the
tliird quarter of the game Richmond were at first for
tunate, -gaining a- goal. Lcydin kicked Carlton's
eighth, and Hill for Riohmdnd, and Baker for Carl
ton, each had rjisncoessful shots. During the last
quarter Richmond played well, gaining two goals.
The final' soore was—Carlton, 12 goals 18 behinds ;
Richmond, 4 goals 7 bohiuds. Leydiu kicked six goals
for Carlton.
