MR. MELVILLE, M.L.A. at B 'MP I.
ACCOBDINO to advertisement, our worthj·y
and respected member, Mr. N. Melville,:
M.L.A., visited Minmi on Thursday even
ing last, and upon his arrival was met by
the chairman, secretary, and the members
of the Minmi Improvement Committee, and
upon their invitation, adjournedto Stranig's
Hotel, where a very pleasant hour was
spent, partaking of a dinner which was
served up in excellent style. After ample
justice had been done to the good things
provided, several matters of local improve
ments were brought under Mr. Melville's
notice, to which he promised immediate
attention. The public meeting wa~s held'
in Strang's Hall, and the building was
crowded to the doors, a great number
standing outside. Mr. Patrick was voted
to the chair, and introduced Mr. Melville
to the meeting, who explained at length
the various matters which had occupied
the attention of Parliament during last
session, resuming his seat amid great ap
plause. A vote of confidence was carried
by acclamation, the chairman stating that
the residents of Minmi were indebted to
the exertions of Mr. Melville for telegraphic
communication, change of mail route and
letter delivery, registry office, the improve
ment of roads, and last, though not least,
the bridge now being erected over Back
Creek. The meeting terminated with three
cheers for Mr. Melville and the Queen.
