BUILDING COST LIMIT
OPPOSED
"There is no reason for the Federal
Government's drastic action in re
ducing the cost limit for the erection
of icew buildings from £5000 to £1000."
stated a resolution adopted by the Build
ing Trades Group of Newcastle Trades
Hall Council last night. It was decided
to protest.
Members said that permission to erect
a new building costing £1000 or more
had to be sought from the Government.
Already there were signs of the serious
effect on the building industry. The re
sults would be less employment in the
trade and a more acute housing short
agoe.
Sdelegate: How does the Government
excect us to subscribe to patriotic appeals,
including the purchase of war savings
certificates, if it permits such a foolish
regulation to put our members out of
worl ?
