Garages Seeking
Big Reduction
In Trade Hours
SYDNEY, Tuesday.-A substan.
tial reduction in trading hours for
New South Wales garages was
sought by the New South Wales
Service Stations' Association before
Mr. Justice Braund in the Indus
trial Court to-day.
The association is seeking a vari
ation of the Petrol Fillers' Award
to include
Elimination of Sunday trading,
which is 9 a.m. to noon at present.
Trading between 8 a.m: and 5.30
p.m. Monday to Friday (7 a.mn.
to 6 p.m. at present).
Eight a.m. to noon on Saturdays
(7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at present).
Eight a.m. to 10 a.m. on publio
holidays, with complete closing of
service stations for the sale of
petrol and supplies on Christmas
Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day
learages are closed on these three
days at present).
Grounds for the application are
the extreme difficulty of getting
labour on Sundays and holidays,
the heavy increased costs of work
ing outside the 40-hour week, and
the fact that private motorists can
low collect their petrol ration on
two days of the month.
