in all States, are expected to be amnended
before the next basic wage adjustmnent is
due in Novenmber.
Employers' organisatior.s
made this estimate to-day.
Many employers sraid they
would apply immediately to
the Arbitration Court to ex

jurisdliction its decision to
abandon the automatic quar
terly cost-of-living adjust
melnts.
The decision of the Arbi
tration Court applies only to
the 58 awards mentioned in
the employers' application,
and covers about 200,000
workers.
Public Service
Th:e National Secretary of
the Commonwealth Clerical
Officers' Association (Mr. G.
Smith) said to-day that he be
lieved the Commonwealth
Pub'e Service Board would
adopt the Arbitration Court's
decision.
'"Commonwealth public ser
vants' salaries for years have
been tied to basic wage ad
justments by regulation and
detlerminations," he said.
"In the pist, the Public
Service Board has always
adopted any Arbitration Court
decision.
"It adopted the court's
shorter hours and £1 basic
wage increase decisions."
He said this judgment could
react in favour of unionists
if prices could be stabilised.
If the board accepts the
court's decision more than
200,010 public servants will
be affected.
