DRIFTING MINES.
IILBLBOURNE, Sunday.
Shipping traversing. the waters of the
Australian eastern coast, Torres Stralt,
Barrier, and Coral Sea routes, are warncd
to keep a careful look-out for drifting
mines. Attention is drawn by the Navy
Department to the fact that one of these
dangers was recently found at Cape Flat
tory, near Cooktown, and another has Just
been found off Dove Island, in the great
north-east channel, Torres Strait. These
mines appear to have drifted from New
Zealand and Bass Strait enemy minflelds,
as oll mines laid have not been recovered
by sweeping. More mnise may drift to
the Coral Sea and Torres Strait.
