EMERALD-HILL POLICE COURT.
In the Emerald-hill Police Court on Tuesday
a heavy, broad-shouldered Scotchman named
Mitchell Nesbit, a brother of the late David
Nesbit, who was known to most people in
Melbourne as "Scotch Jock," was charged
with assaulting William Morley, the well
known carrier. There was a second charge
against the prisoner for threatening to
murder William Morley. From the evi-
dence taken it appeared that Mr. Morley
was at the horse exhibition in the Agri-
cultural Society's yards on Monday, and while
talking to a friend the prisoner came up be-
hind him, and struck him a heavy blow on
the side of the head, which brought Mr.
Morley on his knees. The prisoner, who was
using very violent threats was about to
strike a seoond blow, when Sergeant Ellis
came up and threw him. The defendant
pleaded guilty to the assault, for which he
was fined £10, or three months' imprisonment
in defauly. For the threatening language be
was ordered to find two sureties in £50 each,
and become bound himself in the same
amount, to keep the peace for six months.
The fine was not paid, nor were the sureties
produced.
