SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
MINENRAL PROSPECTS IN THE INTERIOR.
Mr. Brown, the Government geologist of
South Australia, has returned to Adelaide
from three a months' trip to the Musgrave
Ranges, in the interior. He considers that
the ranges are good pastoral courtry, but
was not favourably Impressed with them so
far as minerals are concerned. The country
has been tried for gold, but Mr. Brown
does not think that it is gold-bearing. Water
seemed scarce, but the geologist is of opinion
that it could be got in plenty by sinking.
LABOUR DIFFICULTY.
There is a threatened labour difficulty at
Port Pirie. The men employed at the British
Block smelting works demand an increase of
is per day, and it is stated that if the con
cession is not made within a fortnight they
will go out. Feeders and slag sappers are
asking for 9s. for eight hour,' work, and
wheelers demand 8s per day. It is expected
the concession will be grant.d.
It is reported that during the.heavy rain
which foel on Tuesd.y the men on the night
shift asked for double pay, which was given.
The manager wired particulars of this action
to the directors, who replied that he was to
resist any further similar demands made by
the men, and to engage fresh hands.
