Despe-aete Suicide.
A MosT determined suicide (says.the BEvoening
New,. was committed this (tL'hursday) morn
ing at Hay by a man named Edward Hunt,
who had been staying in the Tlininus Hotel
for afortriight, About 11 o'clock a report
of a gun was heardin, thesshed at the rear of
the hotel. On going there the landlord found
the man on his back with a doible barrelled
gun lying across his legs pointing to his
face. A piece of string attached to .the
trigger was fastened round the left foot, and
it is supposed that the gun was held td his
mouth by his hands and the trigger pulled
by means of the string attached to the foot.
The charge entered between the nose and
the mouth, carried away the upper' lip and
part of the nose, smashed the jaw and blew
the top of the he:ad completely off. The
brains were scattered over the wall. The
gun was loaded with a eartridge which he
blrrowed from the landlord. The other
barrel wasloaded in a similar way, but had
not been discharged. The deceased, who
anme from Sydney, told a groom that he had
had a good deal of bother about some pro
perty belonging to him, that it was worth
s1t;000, andtl 'he could not get the money.
This preyed upon his mind, and he ap
peared melancholy. He had been cemmuni
eating with friends in Narracoorte, and a
telegram came from there about an hour
after he shot himself. he was between 40
and 50years, andsaid he had been a gold
miner.
