NEWCASTLE POLICE .COURT.
PXSIDAY, 19TH. NOVEMBER.
(Before Mr. James Mair, P.M.)
DRUNKENNESS.
A TESO of bacchanals, one a female, ap.
peered to answer to the above charge. Two
were fined in the usual amounts, and the
other was ordered to pay 10s., or 48 hours.
DISCHARGED.
Esther Clyngdon, a middle-aged woman,
who had evidently seen better days, was
charged with having no lawful means of
support, or fixed place of abode.
Cons'able Charles Coutis stated that
during the past three weeks he had known
the prisoner, and had repeatedly seen her
nn the reserve, and had observed her
walking about the streets both day and
night. Accused stated that she had no
home in Newcastle, but had in Sydney, and
had been endeavouring to obtain employ
ment for the past three weeks, but had
been unsuccessful in doing se.
The presidine magistrate discharged the
accused, stating that if she appeared be.
fore the Court again she would be severely
dealt with.
THEFT.
William Harman was charged with
having on the 18th inst. stolen one ship's
block, valued at los, the property ot Wil
liam Hunter.
Detective M'Hattie prevel the arrest of
prisoner, whom he saw carrying the pro
perty. In reply to the charge at the lock
up he stated that he had been drinking
very much of late, and had taken the bloat
from the wharf.
William Hunter identified the block as
his property, and missed it from has shop.
Mary Smith, wife cf William Smith,
marine store dealer, deposed that the
accused called at the shop the previous day
and asked witness how much she would give
for the block.
Prisoner pleaded guilty, and was sen
tenced to two months' hard labour.
REMANDED.
You Ohong, alias Ah Fat, was remanded
until Wednesday on a charge of stealing a
breech-loading gun, valued at £5, the pro
pert.y of Ha How, at Pelican Flat, on the
10th mstant.
FURIOUS DRIVING.
George Davis was prosecuted under the
Publio Vehicles Act with furiously driving
a 'hue along the Maitiland-road on the 13th
instant. Defendant pleaded guilty, and
was fined 10s, with 2s 6d costs. hoes.
Ellis, on a similar charge, waa fined in a
similar sum.
CRUELLY ILL TREATING A HORSE.
William Wheelan was summoned by
Sergeant Griflfihs for cruelly ill-treating a
horse at Newcastle on the 13th instant.
The case was proved, and defendant was
ordered to pay £2, with costs.
UNREGISTERED DOG.
Ac'tizsn was ordered to pay 10s and
cests for having an unregistered dog in his
possession.
