WEEKLY REVIEW OP THE
CORN TRADE.
' Wednesday Evening.
Under date December 8 we hear that the:
London wheat market is dull, and prices ,
easier. The quotations on that date were-;
Australian, 47a. per 4961b.; New Zealand 39s.
to 45s., the Btoc]cs of the latter being heavy.
Later telegrams report Australian wheat, per
4961b., ex warehouse, 46s.; New Zealand, 38s.
6d. to 43s. Cd., according to quality. Aus
tralian flour, 32s.
At Adelaide wheat is steady at 4s. to 4s. 6d.
for shipping parcels, and 4s. 3d. to 4s. 4d. for
farmers' lots, at Port Adelaide. Flour is quiet
at £910s. to £1016s. for ordinary, and £10 to
£10 6s. for leading "brands.

unaltered, with a fair trade. Maize is Ss. 2d..
toSa. 3d. Victorian produce remains without
change. . ; . ";
The recelota inMelbourne tills week
show a slight falling off as compared
with those of the previous week, while
the shipments show very little change.

flour, &c., delivered at the Melbourne goods
station during the week ending the 10th of
December:-Wheat, 4.954 bags; Hour,

With the harvest in immediate view the
market can be regarded as no other than
dull. The quantities coming forward have
been smaller than anticipated, and thus
prices have been fairly maintained. Shippers
are ready to purchase, but their limits have
not allowed them to operate to any extent
At Adelaide, also, prices are being maintained
at fully the Melbourne level, Turning to
actual transactions, we had to note on
Saturday a moderate inquiry for flour, but
only a few small parcels were disposed of at
from £9 7s. Gd. to £9 10s. Several small
parcels were nlso taken up for shipment to
fill up vessels now on the berth. Wheat was
in fair demand, the millers still showing an
inclination to purchase old for mixing pur
poses. We only heard of a few trade parcels
of old having been disposed of at 4s. 5£d.
There was nothing doing in new wheat, the
prices asked preventing operations. Sales
reported on Monday were ^ on a moderate
scale. In flour there was not much doing,
only trade parcels having been quitted at up
to £910s. For wheat a fair demand con
tinued. Altogether, close on 2,000 bags of
old were cleared off in parcels at from 4s. 4d.
for medium up to 4s. 5Jd. for prime; about
250 bags of new were disposed of in parcels
at from 4s. 3d. to 4s. 3^d. A fair parcel to
arrive during this week was placed at 4s. 2d.
On Tuesday and to-day flour has been selling
in small trade parcels at £9 7s. Gd. to £910s.
On Tuesday wheat was selling quietly in
trade pi reels. At auction 130 bags were
offered and sold at 4s. 5£d. for old and 4s.
3W. for new. Privately a few hundred bags
were disposed of at from 4s. 5d. to 4s. 5Jd. for
old wheat Nothing transpired in new wheat.
To-day only 23S bags were offered at auction
and sold, the bulk at 4s. 4d. for medium, the
balanceat4s.5d. and4a.5£d forprime. Privately
onlyoneor two small parcelsweredisposedof.
Oats on Saturday were difficult of sale, except
for milling samples, which are very scarce.
For ordinary thin feed 2s. 10<L has been paid,
while for stout 3s. Id. was obtained. On
Monday a little more was doing. About 600
bags New Zealand, in bond, were quitted at
2s. 4d., while 600 bags of Victorian were
cleared off at from 2s. 10d. for thin feed, up to
3s. l|d. for stout A small parcel of new
Calcutta was also sold at 2s. Gd. On Tues
day oats were in moderate request Publicly,
however, only a small quantity was offered,
and quitted at from 3s. Id. for New Zealand,
up to 3s. 2d. for heavy. Otherwise, besides
smaller sales, 300 bags were disposed of at
from 3s. to 3s. Id. To-day 80 bags were
offered and sold at 2s. 4d. to 2s. 5d. for new
Calcuttas. Privately 100 bags Victorian were
sold at 2s. lid. to 2s. 11R, and 150 bngs
new Calcuttas at 2s. 4<L to 2s. 5d. New
malting barley has been offering at 3s. Gd.
to 3s. 8d., but without leading to business.
Peas have been selling at 8s.; that
price has been taken for 150 bags. Maize
has had moderate attentiop. Publicly 400
bags were cleared off on Tuesday at 4s. lid.
delivered, less 1 per cent., while privately a
few hundred bags were sold at a price accord
ing to quality. To-day 54 bags maize were

day later a telegram from Reuter reported
Australian wheat worth 46s. At Adelaide
wheat is steady at 4s. 3d. to 4a. 4d. for
farmers* lots, and 4s. 5d. to 4s. Gd. for ship

In Melbourne flour has had better inquiry;
small parcels of good country brands were
quitted yesterday at up to £10. Stocks
available are light, and prices have conse

were sold at from £015s. to £10. In wheat a
fair business has been doing. Altogether,
about 1,500 bags of old were cleared off
yesterday in parcels at from 4s. 4W. to 4s.
5d. We were also advised of 300 bags of new
wheat having been quitted at 4s. 3d. To
day the only business we have to note is the
sale of 350 bags old wheat at 4s. 5d. In oats
there has been very little doing; 250
bags of heavy oats were disposed of
on' Thursday at 3s. 3d., while 150 bags
of feed were placed at 3s. We also heard
of 200 bags of Calcutta having been quitted
at late rates. Many parcels of the latter
