Correspondents on the subject of chess are particu
larly requested to mark their letters " Chess," and
address them to the Editor, and not personally to
any gentleman who is, or is supposed to be, con
nected with " The Australasian.

" Cousin Jade " (Beechworth)-Your solutions of Mos.
1,097 and 1.09S correct, but very late.
"J. P. S. (New South Wales)-Your solution of No.
1,100 rigbt (a very good key wove, and neat
nates, 8).
" 8. R." (Mansfield)-Yes, but in No. 1,039 you can
mate in one.
" T. B." (Geelong)-Your problem is not up to
standard, and solutions incorrect.
Problem No. 1,101, by "J. Willis."-Correct solutions
received from " Waltie," good combination, not
difficult, 7; "J. Fiasman," award 8; " Vril," very
ordinal}', 7.
Problem No. 1,102, by "R. L. Hodgson."-"E.A."
(Horsham) sends author's solution and another one,
as follows :
