by the whole number on the card, and
Mrs. Jar ley Was greatly in demand, and
subsequently justified the confidence re
posed in her by cleverly defeating Timo
tbeus, the next best fancied, by half a
length. After the horses had passed the
post, it was discovered that tbey had run five
furlongs instead of half a mile. The time
ot lm. 5s. was pretty ample evidence of the
mistake; butane stewards declined to inter
fere, although the fielders did their utmost to
induce the Owner Of the second horse to
lodge a protest. Seven weighed out
for the principal handicap, of whom
Allander bad the call, and left the paddock at
7 to 4. Alter Huron had made roost of the
running Into the straight, the favourite came i
out and won easily by three-quarters of a i
length from the first-named. After Good
Boy had run away with the Novel Selling
Race, a Hurry Skurry of a mile was won by
Mr. Maroney'a Skyscraper, a son of Irish
King. Sundry fines were imposed during the
afternoon for carrying wrong colours, The

Sapphire, Olivette, and mistake got the advantage.
Defiance, on the outside, led into the straight, but
was at once in trouble, and Olivette drawing out, won
in a canter by two lengths, three parts ot a length
from Defiance being Mistake. St. lleliers was fourth,
and Albany last Time, lm. 47) a.

The favourite and What's Wanted led up to the first
hurdle in front ot the stand, at which the latter came
to grief, and Conductor rolled over him. King of the
Forest then drew away, pursued by Moonlight, and
never being headed, be won in a canter by half a
doien lengths. Time, 8m. Ids.

The favourite jumped off in front of everything ant
led into the straight followed by Timotheus and
Venus. Timotbeus answered tbo call made on bin
at the distance, but be never could get on to tormi
with Mrs. Jarley, who won cleverly by half a length,
Two lengths off the second, Venus was third, witfc

Huron passed the stand, followed by Land League,
Venus, and Allander, Huntress lying last. Along
tbe back of the course Land League and Huron alter
nately held command, Venus and Allander being close
up, and Tait tailed off last. At the far turn Land
League had dropped back, and Huron, Allander,
Venus, and Huntress were pretty well together.
Huron, on tbe inside, led into tbe straight, with tbe
favourite on bis whip band, and Venus behind.
Once Loaded for home, Allander had everything
beaten, and he eventually defeated Huron easily by
three-quarters of a length, Venus finishing third a
couple of lengths off the second. Huntress was fourth
and Tait last. Time, 2m. 40s.
