CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUD.,
ANNUAL MEETING..
ThE annual meeting of. the Carlton
Football Club was hold at the, Royal
Hotel last evening. There was a very
large attendance, and Mr. 3J. Colgan,
one of the vice-presidents, occupied the
chair.
The fourteenth anuail report
showed that during the season 1897
the club competed in two grades pro.
mated by the Northern Branch New
South Wales Rugby Union, viz,,
senior and first junior, and were suo
cessful in winning the senior premier
ship honours for the fourth time, also
registering themselves holders of the
Raysmith Shield for the seoned time.
The first juniors were also successful
in their grade. The senior team
played 11 matches for the badges, 7
of which were won, 1 lost, and 3
drawn; the points scored for were 73,
against,20. Five other matches were
also played, three of which were won,
one lost, and one drawn; the points
scored for being 52, against 16, mak
ing a grand total for the season of 125
points, against 36. The first juniors
played 12 matches for the badges,
eight of which were won, three lost,
and one drawn;' the points scored for
being 40, against '12. The committee
regretted the deaths of Joseph
Jenkins, a playing member, and
Win. Bloomfield, one of the vice
presidents, who died in Sydney,
after e lingering illness.' A surplus
of £39 -e, made out of the Randwick
match, together with £30 collected by
the members, was handed over to the
family of Mr. Joseph Jenkins, by the
Carlton Club. The committee com-j
plimented the club upon their success,
and thanked the' players for energy
displayed in practising and retaining
their condition throughout the season,
and in conclusion wished to itopress
upon playing members the necessity of
practising and training for the 'ompe
titions during the coming season to
enable the committee to present an
equally successful report next season.
The balance-sheet, Wihich was of a
highly satisfactory nature, showed a
credit in bank of £6 1 s 4d, and cash
in hand £7 4s 7d.

sheet, complimented the members of
the club upon the sucoess that had
attended their efforts during the past
season, and advised the players to
train assiduously, believing as he did
if they did so at the conclueion of the
season they would be able to call the
shield their own..
The adoption was seconded by Mr.
H. DoLAN, and c.rried unanimously.

Ten now members were elected, and
after the businres of the meeting had
been transacted, harmony was in
dulged in, a moat enjoyablo time being
spent.
