THE TURF.
T'he Ourimbah Trotting Club will hold
a nlmeeting to-day.
A splendid entry has been received for
the race meeting to be held at Maitland
on Saturday, and a successful afternoon's
racing is assured.
Mr. F. W. Wilkinson will officiate as
judge, and Mr. J. Fisher as cleric of the
realcs at the Maitland races on Satur
day.
To Whare and Adgle, who are engaged
at the A.J.C. meeting, left Newcastle for
Sydney yesterday morning.
Willow GOreen, who Is mnuch,fancied for
Caulfield Cup, will, says a Melbourne ad
vice, be ridden In that race by W. Lilly
matn.
Mr. Barney Thompson is coming to
Austerlia for his year-end trip. He has
bookcd his passage by steamer timed to
leave England on November 28.
Two horses by imported Chiron (Tsetse
and Ombrolle) won at Hobart. and one
(Chi Chi) in Adelaide on Saturday.
J. P. lEdwards will ride Guncap and
Boyonog for Mr. A. T. Creswick in their
A.J.C. jumping engagements
Tie Ascot (Vic.) Fivo Hundred was won
by Gaby; by Menschikoff from Nannic,
with Little Pos second and Royal Ban
nor and Ty'r.pan a dead heat for third
place. The S:idney iorse' Elfiver Havoc
started favourite.. Amongst the other
starters was Real Silk, also belonging
to this side. Gaby won easily 'by two
and a half lengthy, the mile occupying
'min 46 1-lsece
The death of Mr. W. Christian is re
ported to have talton place on September
28. Mr.. Christian raced a 'fair number of
horses during the last few years, winning
with Bootan, King Broeomstick, Vana
dium, and Refrain.
Mr. Martin Caple's brood mare Tri-de
Vee ha's been most unfortunate at the
stud. She recently had twin foals to
Collarlt, both being born dead. Her first
foal died when It was a few months old,
through eating a poisonous weed, and the
third fell in a hole In a paddock and was
Killed.
Onlookers at the work at'Victoria Park
have been expecting to see Valldo tried
out over the Epsom distance, 'but so far
have been disappointed. The chestnut
will not be sent over the mile at fhis top
between now and the race, as it is thb
opinion of his trainer that Valldo has
had sufficient racing and galloping to en
sure him seeing the trip right through
on Saturday next.
Cadonia is causing C. O'Rourke some
anxiety. The Metropolitan candidate is
moving splendidly in 'hls' gallops. but
when he cools Off has a tendency to
"nurse" one of his legs.
After Athenic's recent display in public,
it was only to be expected that the colt
would be withdrawn .from the A.J.C.
Derby. Athenle has been nominated in
some New Zealand events, and will no
doubt be sent over there, where he will
be well, suited by short distance races.
A young lady from . Tasmania-Miss
Marjorle Longdon-was out riding work
on Tuesday at Flemington. The young
lady had mounts on Prince Flotsam, Yan
dilla' King, and Heros.

Mir. WV. H. Carmont, stipendiary steward
to the Northern Rivers Racing Associa
tion, by the direction of the A.J.tI, re
opened the inquiry at' South Grafton into
the running of Trcoon at the South Graf
ton meeting in-July. The evidence will
be forwarded to.tho A.J.C.
The well-known country jockeys L. Wad
dups and W. 'iatthiws., were mixed up
in a nasty fall at the Chiltern meeting,
but fortunately without serious results.
Waddups was on the favourite, Silver Me
dal, and appeared to have the race well
in band at the straight entrance, when
his montht slipped and came down; Neg
lige, ridden by Matthewis, falling over the
top of him. Waddups rolled under the
fence and escaped with' a badly brulsed
shoulder: while Matthews, thounh for a
little time unconscious, ;was able to get
about shortly after. The race was won by
Our Miss Gibbs. who, ridden by Wadiups,
ran second in the Maiden Plate earlier in
the dlay. It was evidently not Waddups'
dau out.

'The well-known Victorian owner-train
er, J. Smith, was warned off the Melbourne
pony courses at Ascot, for conversing with
I. Nash, the rider of Mllnell, after he had
welghed out for the first event. As Nash
was proved to be a trainer of horses, the
stewards withdrew his jockey's license.
Ponnile Helen. who won the Wanganui
Ouinens, is filly by Boniform from Helon
Portland, whose best performanl:o as a
two-year-old, was when she filled third
place to Ventura and The Hague in the
Juvenile Plate (special" weights), at the
C.J.C. Motropolitan meeting in Novembor
last. Ventura (8st 21b) won very easily
from the place-getters, who carried only
Ost 711 each.

MsCer's. Moses Bros. have experienced
another severo loss iln the death of their

mare, who was a half-siltcr to that goodi

T'le Amazon has foaled a bay colt, aud

So far there are only half a dozen cer
tatn starters in sight for the 'Derby, and

Apart from these, the only possible run
ners appear to be Simon 'Frisco and Mul
tifoll, and it cannot be said that form
gives either the slightest chance.
At a special meeting of the members of
the Auckland (N.Z.) Itacing Club a reso
lution increasing the number of mem
bers of that institution to 300 was car
ried. Hitherto tihe membership was limit
ed to 250.
Tihe Waggen Cup winner, Loch Amos,
has been taken to Melbourne for the
spring campaign. The son of Wallace and
Arrowroot has wintered well, and looks
to be in line health.
The Rlandwick lad, W. Huxley, who Is
an apprentieg attached to R. Wootton's
racing establishment, went across to Ire
]and last month, and at the Leopards
town meeting captured the Stand Plate
and August Handicap on Mullion and
Josh respectively, horses owned 'by tile
Irilsh-American sportsman, Mr. R.
Crolker.
I. Earnshaw's stable will not be repre
sented in either the Epsom or Metropoli
tan, and Radnor will be his only Derby
Bronzino's first foals have made their
appearance at Wilton Park, My Delight
(Haut Brlon-Round Dance) having
thrown a filly to that horse, and Istrla
and Styria each a colt. This is Styria's
first foal. Thoseo who have seen 'My Deo
light's filly are very enthusiastic con
cerning it. Among other stud items may
be mentioned that Plecrust has thrown a
filly to Wallace, and Praleen a filly to
Petrillo.
