FIGIHT AT GEIIRMISTON.
CAPTURE OF RLILWAY STOCK.
LONDON, Thlrsday.-Lord Rloberts
cabled to.the War Office on Wednesday
night as follows:
"At. the conmmandant's request I de
ferred entering Johannesburg for 24
hours, in order to avoid a disturbance
in the townl. in which there were many
armed burghers.
"Lieutenant-General Inn IIUmilton,
with the Mounted Ilnfantry Division,
on Tuesday, supporting Lieutenant
Genernl Frcnch with the Cavalry Di
vision, captured the ridges three miles
sollth of the Rond.
"The ridges were defended by seve
ral guns.
"Tlhe chief casualties occurred
among the Gordon HIighlanders and
the City of London Volunteers."
LONDON, Thursday Afternoon.
The Grenadier Guards, after some
street fighlting, expelled the Boers
from Germiston, a suburb of Johanmnes
burY.
Nine locomotives and a great quan
tity of rolling stock were cnpturml.
