CHANGING LONDON
Bush House in the Strand
LONDON, September 7.
One of thegreatet operations in office
building il England ril completed
with the erection in the Strand ef the
final section of a bush-house-one of the
moot conspicuous features of modern Lon
don. The Office of Works has leased the
proposed new building for housing the
staff of one of the Government depart
ments.
Its erection will also mark the comple
tion of a great scheme planned in 1898
for sweeping away narrow streets and
old property which formerly occupied this
site. The dignified new thoroughfares of
Kingsway and Aldwyeh, which have re
placed these old streets, were opened by
King Edward in 1005. but war and tie
depression delayed subsequent develop
ment.
