Mr. Thomas A Onus a well known
Northern district sportsman died at his
home at Lochinvar on Saturday, aged 84
years. He was a member of a Hawkesbury
pioneer family, and was born in Rich-
mond, but came to the Hunter River dis-
trict in his youth. Many years ago he
was associated with the late Mr. W. C.
Markwell in an auctioneering business in
Maitland, but the greater part of his life
was spent on the land in the Lochinvar
district.
Mr. Onus was keenly interested in the
turf, was the owner of several well-known
horses, and for a number of years acted
as starter for the Maitland Jockey Club.
He was also a cricket enthusiast, and
played for years with the old Albion
Cricket Club. He is survived by one son,
Mr. Charles Onus, and three daughters,
Mrs. H. S. Cubitt, of Lochinvar, Mrs.
Harold Doyle, of Quirindi, and Miss Vera
Onus, of Lochinvar.
