Music festival
court ban
'disappointing'
SYDNEY: Organisers of a mu
-'Sic festival on the NSW central
coast said yesterday they were
disappointed but would abide by
a court decision to cancel the
three-day event.
The Land and Environment
Court ruled on Friday the Happy
Valley Arts and Music Festival
could not go ahead after the Gos
ford Council applied for an in
junction against it, saying organ
isers had not applied for a
development application.
The council's move followed an
order on Tuesday from the state
Government to Police Commis
sioner Tony Lauer to step up po
licing at the nationally-promoted
event, amid fears that it could re
sult in another teenage drug
death.
Happy Valley organiser Abel
Polo reacted angrily to sugges
tions the festival was a rave par
ty.
Rave parties and their alleged
connection to teenage drug abuse
have been under the spotlight
since Sydney teenager Anna
Wood died after allegedly taking
an ecstasy tablet outside a dance
party in October.
