Council Approves
Cessnock
Union Proposal
A new application of the seniority
rule, proposedl by the Cessnock branch
of the Municipal and Shire Em
ployees' Union at a stop-work meet
ing on Monday, was approved by
Kearsley Shire Council last night at
a special meeting.
The men had also proposed that
fresh applications for the position
of bulhlozer dlriver be called.
In the past ach clemployee has on
joyed seniority in his respective de-c
artnimlnt, but Inow each elnployse's
seniority will be deltermincld onl his
lenlth of service with the council.
The council agreed to thle recom
msendatin because it has alwrays favr
oured seniority on tlhi basis, but
adopted the other system to meet
the wishes of the onion. The council
also decided to call for applications
for the position of bulldozer driver
and will introduced a scheme . by
which additional operators will be
trained for each mechanical unit.
There are 11 mechanical units. The
Assistant General Secretary of the
Miunicilpal and Shire Employes''
ITnion (r. Lewis) agreed to assist
thle councsil in adjustinug prloblems on
this training.
